The New Normal

We're pretty sure most parents are a little stumped trying to navigate this new way of life amid the COVID-19 guidelines and schools opting for at-home learning. Figuring out the new work-life balance is one thing, but having to come up with lunch and snack prep to keep you and the kids going all day, every day can be overwhelming in itself. It may be easy to have pre-packaged goods on hand to just grab and go, but it's incredibly important to ensure that kids are getting optimal nutrients not only for growth but for immune strength. We are not doctors, but we are firm believers in immune health - especially in the middle of a pandemic.

Where To Start?

Here at LivBar we are all about balance. Let's be real, it's impossible to eat perfectly healthy all day, every single day. Life happens for everyone and sometimes you need to be able to grab something on the go. First and foremost, that's one of the reasons we created our superfood bars. It's a nutrient dense option for when you need something quick and healthy - and not to mention completely kid friendly. We encourage you to be mindful about the pre-packaged options you do choose to have on hand as many big company products such as  crackers, chips, cookies, etc., are packed with unnecessary preservatives, artificial coloring, and contain next to no nutrient value. 

Although we prefer fresh fruits and vegetables for snacks and food prep, below are a few companies we like to incorporate into our daily lives:

  • Simple Mills - they have great almond flour crackers with minimal ingredients - goes great with hummus and veggies
  • Hu Kitchen - uses easy to read ingredients and has great crackers (and even better chocolate) - goes great with hummus and veggies

Snacks For Kids

Since you're stuck at home all day with the kids, it's going to be important to keep things exciting - even when it comes to food. We find involving kids in the food prep and using it as a teaching moment is a great way to do so. This could be showing them how to prep something or why what they're eating is good for them. After a while, you'll find how many teaching moments there are for children with everything they do! Lucky for you, we'll help you get started. 

Build Your Own Apple Nachos

This is one of our favorite ways to use our LivBars! First, let your kids pick out which LivBar flavor they want on their apple nachos - this gives them the freedom of choice while you control what other ingredients they can top their nachos with. If they're old enough, we encourage you to have kid friendly knives so they can start to learn basic knife skills early on. Before they cut their apples, ask them why they think apples are good for them & get them thinking.

Blueberry Banana Chia Seed Pudding

This is a great alternative to those pre packaged pudding cups you always see marketed at the stores, and one of our favorite snack recipes! Have your kids help you prep the pudding the night before - this will give them something to be excited for the next day when snack time arrives! Build Your Own Waffle Bar

We don't suggest having waffles every single day, but this can be a fun way to treat kids if they're having a great day and you want to make lunch memorable. We suggest letting them help you pick out which toppings should be a part of the "waffle bar", and even help prep the waffle batter. We believe you can never teach kids kitchen skills too early!
