LivBar's Guide to Classic Thanksgiving Sides

It's that time of year again! The holidays are rolling in quicker than ever which means planning out your Thanksgiving sides is a must. What makes a great Thanksgiving day food lineup? Is it the mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, or the glorious pie?! Whatever it may be, LivBar has put together this guide for classic Thanksgiving sides to serve alongside whatever main dish you may choose!

Mashed Potatoes & Gravy

Mashed potatoes are one of the most popular sides when it comes to Thanksgiving. We love using Yukon Gold potatoes because they have a wonderful texture for this dish. They're slightly sweet when cooked, making them the perfect mashed potato candidate. They are rich, buttery, and hold the best part of all: gravy. Classic gravy is typically made with Turkey drippings, but we love whipping up a beautiful vegan mushroom gravy from scratch.

Some of our favorites are:

Candied Sweet Potatoes

Candied sweet potatoes - you either love them or you don't. We're on the side of loving them! In fact, we developed a Paleo version of this classic dish with a crunchy topping using our Coffee Maple Cacao LivBar. You can get the full recipe to our Paleo Candied Sweet Potatoes here! We love recipes like this because they are gluten-free, dairy-free, and refined sugar-free. Typical candied sweet potatoes are usually packed with unnecessary amounts of sugar, butter, and even marshmallows. It's amazing how you can take classic dishes and spin them into a healthier version.

Cranberry Sauce

Cranberry sauce is one of our favorites! It adds the perfect amount of sweetness to your plate filled with all of the Thanksgiving goods. The slight tart flavor paired with a bite of mashed potatoes and stuffing is the absolute best! Cranberry sauce is another side that can be packed with a lot of unnecessary sugar. Luckily, there are many recipes you can find using options like honey, maple syrup, and coconut sugar to sweeten.

Stuffing is one of those Thanksgiving sides that you will always find on the table no matter what. We're so happy there are numerous recipes and options for gluten-free stuffing without sacrificing taste or texture. From savory to slightly sweet, the options are endless.

When it comes to the Thanksgiving food lineup, dessert seems to rank in the top three. Pie is typically what you find at Thanksgiving, but if pie isn't your jam, we have you covered! There are endless options for Thanksgiving desserts that are sure to please even the avid pie lovers!

And for all the pie lovers...
