The Perfect Back to School Snack
Did you know that the second Tuesday of September is National Ants on a Log Day? We know - there is a national day for everything - but more reason to celebrate, right?! We know what you're thinking, it may be an odd one to celebrate - but with kids going back to school we thought this is the perfect way to sneak some superfood into your kid's snacks.
If you're unfamiliar with the classic snack, ants on a log is typically celery sticks, peanut butter, and raisins. When using whole food ingredients it's a fun way to get kids to eat a snack packed with nutrients. Since ants on a log is customizable and can be made any way you'd like, we put a small spin on it and used our vegan Lemongrass Cherry Matcha LivBar with dried, unsweetened cherries.
Celery has a wide range of health benefits from anti-inflammatory properties to cholesterol healing components in addition to being low calorie, great for the digestive system, and packed full of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. We talk about the importance of fueling your kids with whole foods in our blog about Back to School Food Prep for At-Home Learning where you can find multiple recipes that are perfect for this new way of schooling during a pandemic.
